I am a qualified yoga and dance teacher based in Charente, France. I have over 7 years experience teaching Hatha Yoga and more than 2 years teaching Tribal Fusion Belly Dance. I also teach forms of Pranayama as well as Yoga Nidra.

Many years ago, as a result of a strong inner impulse, I walked out of a promising sales career and stepped into complete uncertainty; and from that emerged my new incarnation. The impulse told me to give up my home in Russia and move to the West Coast of India. I obeyed that impulse, although I didn't know the reason for it and in India I discovered Yoga and Meditation. I decided to dedicate my life to their practice and after many years of studying and traveling I knew that I should share my knowledge with those around me. I now work freelance and teach people here in the Charente region of France.

Hatha Yoga

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj, which means to unite. Yoga is an ancient art based on a harmonizing system of development for the body, mind, and spirit. The continued practice of yoga will lead you to a sense of peace and well-being, and also a feeling of being at one with their environment.

Lesson Plan

My lesson will be interesting for beginners and advanced practitioners, it is based on Hatha & Vinyasa flow style of yoga which connects movement with breathing. The class will contain breathing guidance and explanation of Ujjayi breath which is a special yogic breathing technique. We will run through the standing asanas, different balances, deep stretches and floor poses, and towards the end of the class there will be some challenging poses. To finish we will spend time in shavasana which is deep state of relaxation.

All of the asanas (yogic postures) are explained in detail and I will spend time with you individually to help correct any mistakes in the postures. I also have knowledge of anatomy so I can explain what is happening inside the body as well as philosophically. My main aim is to spread love and knowledge and for you to leave feeling more open.

Pranayama

Pranayama comes from two Sanskrit words prana, meaning the fundamental life force, and yama meaning to control. Pranayama is, therefore channelling or controlling the life force. The key to understanding prana is the breath. When the mind is clear and balanced, the breath is even and rhythmic.

Lesson Plan

We start the lesson with Kapalbhati - a breathing technique which invigorates the brain and performs a deep massage of your belly organs. We follow this with Bhastrica – or breath of fire, by doing this you are fully oxygenating and energising your body. It will also strengthen your lungs, helps with allergies, and remove toxins from your body. Next up is Uddiyana Bandha – also known as the upwards abdominal lock, this gently massages all the organs in the abdomen and improves digestion. The last step is Nauli — this is a powerful yogic technique that massages the abdomen, stimulates the digestive fire and also removes toxins.

The end of the lesson will be mind orientated pranayama that contains four stage Uddjaya pranayama breathing exercises. It will work magic on your stress, tension, anger and anxiety, as well as filling you with energy for the rest of your day.

Tribal Fusion

Tribal Fusion Belly Dance incorporates elements from Egyptian belly dance, Hip Hop as well as movement principles from traditional forms such as Flamenco, Kathak and other dance styles. Through dancing we can create strong, graceful bodies with open hearts, minds, self awareness and acceptance.

Lesson Plan

During the lesson we will connect with our feminine power and open the door to our natural beauty. In the beginning of the lesson we'll do some warming up using Vinyasa flow yoga to prepare the body for dance. We then move onto hand movements as this is the key to becoming a great tribal dancer, we do this whilst trying to connect the movement with soft steps. Along the way I will give detailed explanations of each main tribal posture.

Now it's time to have some real fun and practice actual tribal techniques and dance chords. Towards the end of the lesson its shimmy time (hips shaking), eventually we'll connect the shimmy with the head, then the hands, followed by the other parts of the body. We then finish off with some nice stretching yoga asanas to warm down.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. The goal of yoga nidra is to reach a state called samadhi.

Lesson Plan

Yoga Nidra is practised in the yogic pose called shavasana, this means you get to lay down on your back on your yoga mat or blanket. I will then adjust your position to make it the most comfortable it can be, using small pillows for the head and cosy blanket to cover your body, this will reduce sensory stimulation as much as possible. You will stay in shavasana during entire practice which will last around 40-45 minutes.

The aim of Yoga Nidra is to reach a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, a state called samadhi. To achieve this you will follow my voice as it takes you on an inner journey of complete relaxation, you will become systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world.
